Dubai-based Rise Studios, under the leadership of former Warner Bros. Discovery Middle East chief Amanda Turnbull, has forged a strategic alliance with the Turkish sales and production firm Inter Medya. This collaboration has culminated in their inaugural co-produced television series, “Caged Love,” a romantic drama currently in production. The series is poised for a global multi-platform release, aiming to captivate international audiences with its compelling narrative.

New Turkish Drama 'Caged Love' Begins Production

The highly anticipated romantic drama, “Caged Love,” has officially commenced filming, marking a significant milestone for Rise Studios and Inter Medya’s newly established partnership. Directed by the acclaimed Canan Çelik, known for her successful international exports like “Love Is in the Air” (2010) and “Heartstrings” (2025), the series boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Headlining the production are Eslem Akar, recognized for her role in “Room for Love,” and Mert Altınışık, from “Limit.” Supporting cast members include Caner Kurtaran, Faruk Pakiş, Gül Arcan, Aslı Saçar, Hasan Ballıktaş, Berna Üçkaleler, and Pelin Orhuner. The screenplay for “Caged Love” is penned by the talented duo Zeynep Küçükerciyes and Ali Göğebakan. The narrative explores profound themes of identity, self-sacrifice, and an illicit romance, promising a deeply emotional and universally resonant story. The plot centers on a young woman named Deniz, wrongly accused of a crime, who adopts the identity of her terminally ill friend to safeguard her daughter’s future. Upon entering the opulent residence of the influential Demiricihan family under her assumed name, Sevda, she finds herself in an arranged marriage with Baran, a man she initially has no feelings for. Despite the familial pressures orchestrated by the matriarch, they must navigate a labyrinth of internal struggles and external obstacles before they can acknowledge and surrender to their burgeoning affection. Inter Medya’s founder, Can Okan, emphasized that “Caged Love” signifies the evolution of their global co-production strategy. He stated that by merging their international production expertise with Rise Studios’ capabilities, they aim to uphold the global appeal of Turkish drama through exceptional storytelling. Amanda Turnbull echoed this sentiment, highlighting the partnership’s commitment to backing narratives with widespread appeal. She noted that “Caged Love” combines a powerful emotional core with a globally proven genre, creating a product that is both culturally authentic and broadly relatable. Turnbull also expressed that this collaboration with Inter Medya aligns with Rise Studios’ objective to venture into adjacent markets that share cultural sensibilities and offer strong regional and international resonance. Rise Studios, established in 2022, has an impressive filmography that includes Annemarie Jacir’s “Palestine 36,” Tarzan and Arab Nasser’s “Once Upon A Time In Gaza,” Mohamed Baraka-directed thriller “All But Divorced,” and Hiam Abbas-starrer “Only Rebels Win.”

This collaboration between Rise Studios and Inter Medya exemplifies the growing trend of international co-productions in the entertainment industry. It underscores the universal language of compelling storytelling, particularly in the realm of romantic dramas, which often transcend cultural boundaries. The commitment to crafting narratives that are both locally authentic and globally relatable is a powerful strategy for reaching diverse audiences and fostering cross-cultural appreciation for diverse artistic expressions.
