Major Film Releases "The Mummy" and "Miami Vice '85" Adjust Schedules
Universal Pictures has made notable adjustments to the release schedule for two of its much-anticipated film projects. The latest installment of "The Mummy," which sees Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz reprising their iconic roles, will now be unveiled to audiences in October 2027. This move clears its original May 2028 slot for another high-profile production.
Taking over the May 2028 release date is "Miami Vice '85," a modern reimagining of the classic television series. This film, starring Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler, is expected to commence production later this year. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for his work on action-packed films, "Miami Vice '85" aims to capture the vibrant and sometimes perilous atmosphere of 1980s Miami. Early reports suggest the movie will delve into the pilot episode and initial season of the groundbreaking show, which profoundly influenced pop culture, from fashion trends to cinematic aesthetics, and will be presented in IMAX format. The narrative of "The Mummy" sequel remains shrouded in mystery, with plot specifics being kept tightly under wraps by the creative team from Radio Silence, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
Despite these changes, Universal has confirmed that the August 2027 window will not remain empty, with an undisclosed event film slated for release. Additionally, a new Blumhouse production is scheduled for a broad theatrical debut in October 2027. These strategic date alterations reflect the dynamic nature of film distribution and production, aiming to optimize audience reception and box office success. The repositioning of these major titles underscores the studio's commitment to delivering captivating cinematic experiences while navigating the competitive landscape of the entertainment industry.
